2 friends shot dead in Arima

A 17-year-old man of Trainline Road, off Pinto Road, Arima, was shot dead while walking a short distance away from his home on Wednesday night. And just hours later, his friend, Nicholas Gonzales, 23, was also killed while on his way to the dead man’s home.

Police reports revealed that Sampson Mayers was on his way to buy seasoning to cook an iguana at 7.30 pm, when he was confronted by a group of men who shot him several times about the body and twice in the head.

He slumped to the ground in a pool of blood.

The killing was witnessed by scores of Trainline Road residents, who locked their doors while Mayers was riddled with bullets. The killers then fled the scene on foot.

Officers of the Pinto Road Police Post rushed to the scene along with a district medical officer.

The body was ordered removed to the Forensic Science Centre.

A gang from Arima is believed to be responsible for the killing.

Later, at about 10.30 pm, Gonzales, of Phase Four La Horquetta, a close friend of Mayers, was on his way to Mayers’ home to find out about the killing, when he was confronted by a group of gunmen who shot him twice along Pinto Road.

The killing took place near the Simple Song panyard.

The body was viewed by a district medical officer and ordered removed to the Forensic Science Centre.

Relatives of the two murdered men refused to be interviewed yesterday, but sources revealed that the two murders are gang-related. Officers spoke out about an ongoing gang war which has resulted in five people being murdered.

Investigations are continuing.
