Ramkessoon front runner in cricket elections

RESEARCH has been undertaken with respect to the upcoming annual general meeting of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board on October 29.

And according to the structure of the TTCB and the various units entitled to vote it seems very clear that there will be no major changes to the present administration currently riding a momentum of success unprecedented in the history of the local game.

The challenge by the recently formed Friends of Cricket group is likely to go the way of a similar challenge in 1999, when Tony Harford threw his hat in the ring.

The well-known sports organiser and radio personality withdrew from the race for president against veteran Alloy Lequay.

Then in 2001 former West Indies wicket-keeper Deryck Murray challenged Ellis Lewis for the post of president and lost 30-13.

However, Friends of Cricket are expected to give a better show this time around.

According to estimates, out of a total of 45 votes they should gather between 15 (already counted by them) and a possible 18 votes.

This would mean that the Friends of Cricket stand to lose by 30 votes to 15; and if they gather an optimistic 18 votes, they would still remain outside 27-18.

In the public’s interest the voting pattern, of the TTCB, which is not to expected to change dramatically is: National League six; Super League three; Zonal League 15; Affiliates 10; Nominated six; Officers five. Total at stake 45.

Reports have been circulating that the Friends of Cricket have been able to sway certain zone representatives and umpires.

However, it is expected that the bulk of the votes will go solidly to incumbent board members and those who are expecting changes this time around will be disappointed.

From the survey recently undertaken, it is forecast that the following persons will hold the main offices— Dudnath Ramkessoon, president; Baldath Mahabir, firstvice president; Patrick Rampersad, second vice president; Deonarine Jaggernauth, secretary; and Richard de Souza, treasurer.
