Billingy dominates in college v-ball
GREENVILLE: Trinidad and Tobago’s star hitter Kelly Anne Billingy continued her superb form on the United States collegiate circuit as she blasted Marshall University to a straight sets win over East Carolina University earlier this week. The teenaged Billingy plundered 26 kills for a .513 hitting percentage and the performance helped the "Thundering Herd" to a 30-16, 30-26, 30-26 victory, their second over ECU in as many meetings this season. She also helped out in back court with seven digs in a performance that took Marshall University’s record to 11-4 overall and 3-0 in Conference-USA action. "Kelly was fantastic.," head coach Mitch Jacobs said. "Not only was she putting balls away, her defence was great. Her seven digs were very well-timed for us and her improved blocking ability is really helping our other players step up at the net." The Thundering Herd have now won four consecutive matches and 11 of its last 13 while East Carolina crashed to 8-6 overall and a disappointing 1-2 in C-USA action. Billingy was helped out by Stephanie Cahill who had 13 kills for a hitting percentage of .462 and she also chipped in with 10 digs for her ninth double-double of the season. Nickie Sanlin was also outstanding, finishing with seven kills and registering a hitting percentage of .636 as she put away almost everything that came her way. ECU were flat in attack and none of their hitters reached double figures. In addition, Marshall outblocked them 11-5 and outclassed them in digs, 50-32. The Herd, 3-0 at home this season, will clash with Southern Mississippi tonight.
