Toyota $75,000 for Classic Competition
TOYOTA Trinidad and Tobago Limited have contributed $75,000 towards the staging of the inaugural Toyota Classic competition. This will involve all seven teams in the T&T Pro League and the top five clubs in the Sportworld Super League. The leading pair in the Pro League — W Connection and CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh, as well as the Super League duo of Joe Public and Crab Connection, will receive a bye and qualify for the quarterfinals on October 18. The first round will take place next Friday with double-headers (yet to be confirmed) at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo and the Larry Gomes Stadium in Arima. According to the draw, Defence Force will play Tobago United, Caledonia AIA/Fire will face Police, North East Stars will meet WASA Clean & White while United Petrotrin will oppose Superstar Rangers. The semi-finals will take place on October 21 with the finals and third-place playoff scheduled for October 28. The league was launched at the VIP Lounge, Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucu-rapo yesterday. According to Pro League chief executive officer Dexter Skeene, the winners will pocket $30,000, with the runners-up collecting $20,000. The, third-placed team gets $15,000 and fourth-placed $5,000. There will also be incentives and giveaways for the fans. All matches will be knockouts, with penalties if the match ends in a draw after the regulation 90 minutes. Skeene noted that the league has risen to the challenge of being innovative and creative and is 100-percent committed to striving for excellence. "We are delighted that Toyota and the Super League share the vision that our footballers can, and will improve," Skeene added. Marketing Director of the Super League, Anthony Harford, expressed the desire that "the tournament will be a success and some of the teams can use it as a stepping stone to advance to the Pro League."
