San Juan demolish St George’s 18-0

JONATHAN ROMAIN scored five goals and captain Elijah Manners added four as San Juan demolished hosts St George’s 18-0 in the East Zone of the British Gas Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) yesterday. The victory was the most lopsided in the 2005 season so far, as Anthony Guppy, Kadeem Gibbs, Curtis Gonzales and Dwayne Gilbert chipped in with two goals apiece and Jeremy Lawrence added one. The “Blue Thunder” El Dorado remained seven points adrift of San Juan after cruising past Hillview 3-1 at El Dorado. Hasani Wharwood netted a double and Keston Henry added one for “El Do”, while Carlyle Mitchell scored the consolation for Hill-view.

And the “Green Machine” St Augustine suffered a major setback in their quest to retain their Zonal crown as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Malabar at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Arima, with Devon Thomas and John Stewart on target for St Augustine. The North Zone continues to be a neck-and-neck battle bet-ween Fatima and Mucurapo. Both teams remain with 21 points after they earned their seventh win of the season —  Fatima mauling St Mary’s 9-0 at the CIC Ground in St Clair while Mucurapo spanked Malick 5-0 at the Fatima Ground. QRC jumped to third following a 5-0 rout of Tranquility at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.

In the South Zone, Naparima handed Princes Town a 3-0 licking at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella to widen the gap between both teams to seven points. St Benedict’s clim-bed to third place after edging hosts Moruga 2-1 while Mayaro failed to turn up at Vessigny to meet the former Zonal leaders. Presentation stayed top of the Central Zone with a 3-1 triumph over Marabella in the second match of a double-header at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva while, in the earlier contest, Chag-uanas eased past Union Claxton Bay 2-0. And Carapichaima enjoyed a 6-0 battering away to Tabaquite, with Keron Smith registering a hat-trick, while Dwane Spencer, Jamal Cuffy and Keevon Collymore adding one apiece.

On Friday, Scarbo-rough maintained their three-point lead over Signal Hill in the Tobago Zone after whipping Bishop’s 4-1 at the Dwight Yorke Stadium Training Field while the 2004 Zonal champs spanked Roxborough 7-0 in front of their home fans at Signal Hill. Action continues tomorrow with two rescheduled matches —  Fatima hosting Malick in the North and a top-of-the-table Central match-up between Presentation and Carapichaima at the Ato Boldon Stadium.
