Invincibility wins ARC feature

INVINCIBILITY returned to his best form to score a runaway victory in the feature Allowance race on Day 30 of the Arima Race Club season at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, yesterday. Junior Sammy’s America-bred four-year-old which is trained by Derby hero Jack Debideen was a clear length and a half ahead of runner-up Chief Commander at the finish of the 1350 metres race. Salsa Moves made every metre of the running to score readily in the day’s “supporting cast,” the Restricted Handicap over 1100 metres. The Walter Debysingh-trained four-year-old gave visiting 16-year-old Barbadian apprentice Christopher Husbands his first victory on local soil.

Earlier, another teeenage Ryan Hasranah was a very happy youngster after landing Lekh Raj with a very good ride for his first career triumph in his 13th ride. But the young apprentice had an agonising wait to confirm his victory, when  rider of second placed Alfie Meh Boy, jockey Haniff Emamalie lodged a protest against him. Young Hasranah from the clan of Francis and Reno Hasranah, was elated when the stewards threw out the objection. Apprentice Nela Mohammed continues to impress landing two winners to share riding honours with full-fledged jockeys Venezuelan Wilmer Galviz and Haniff Emamalie who also had a double on the ten-race programme.

Douglas Bennett and Bobby Persad shared the honours among trainers saddling two nwinners apiece. Tote payments were rather moderate throughout the day, but turfites enjoyed some good dividends on the trifecta and superfecta. The superfecta combination of Salsa Moves, Second Chances, Honor Bound and La Fabuleux Dansur was best —$8,325.60. And the combination of Joy, Trini Express, The Final Chapter and Sure Park rewarded lucky turfites with $5,477.60. Racing takes a one week holiday on Saturday and will resume on October 29.
