Naparima, San Juan march on

NAPARIMA and San Juan will be marching on to Zonal crowns in the British Gas Secondary Schools Football League when action continues today in all five zones.

In the South, Naps, who have a seven-point lead over chasers Princes Town and St Benedict’s, will oppose Fyzabad at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella while P/Town will be hosting St Benedict’s.

The other match in the South will see the "deep south" pair of Mayaro and Moruga facing off at Mayaro.

San Juan can move a step closer to clinching the East Zone trophy when they host lowly Arima, the "Dial Dynamos", at Bourg Mulatresse while the "Blue Thunder" El Dorado can maintain their slim title hopes with victory at home to Malabar. The "Green Machine" St Augustine know that, in order to retain their Zonal crown, they must win their remaining four matches while San Juan lose their last four matches. That impossible mission starts today when St Augustine hosts St George’s.

The race for the top spot in the Central Zone will continue with leaders Presentation at neighbours Chaguanas while second-placed Carapichaima hosting Marabella. Both "Pres" and Carapichaima have tallied 16 points from six matches, with "Pres" leading courtesy a better goal difference.

The other Central contest will feature Union Claxton Bay at Tabaquite in a clash of the bottom teams.

Another intriguing round of matches will take place in the North, with Fatima and Mucurapo locked at the top with 21 points. But Mucurapo is on a bye, therefore Fatima can claim pole position with at least a point away to third-place QRC.

The other teams are virtually out of the reckoning, with St Anthony’s hosting Tranquillity and Malick facing St Mary’s at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo.

In the sister isle of Tobago, leaders Scarborough will host Bishop’s in the first match of a double-header at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet from 3 pm while Signal Hill are expected to gain full points against Roxborough two hours later.

All matches in Trinidad will kick off at 3.45 pm.
