Toyota Classic football kicks off


THE INAUGURAL Toyota Classic football competition, featuring all seven teams of the T&T Pro League and the top five clubs in the Sportworld Super League, will get going today.


There will be double-headers at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Arima and the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella, from 6 pm.


W Connection and CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh, the leading clubs in the Pro League, as well as Joe Public and Crab Connection, the top two outfits in the Super League, will be on a bye from this evening’s matches.


At Arima, Defence Force will oppose Tobago United at 6 pm while, two hours later, North East Stars will meet WASA Clean & White.


Caledonia AIA/Fire will square off against Police at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella at six o’clock followed by the United Petrotrin-Superstar Rangers contest.


Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Pro League Dexter Skeene is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that the tournament gets going on a high note.


The former national player said, "With the tremendous and inspirational victory of the Trinidad and Tobago team over Mexico (on Wednesday night), I am sure that the respective players will be motivated to produce a higher standard of football at the Toyota Classic.


"The League wishes to extend its congratulation to the national team for an outstanding performance, which showed Trinidad and Tobago’s football at its best." Entry fee for either venue is $20 for the covered section and $10 for uncovered.
