Reef Knot can tie up today’s feature

TWICE a winner before being brought back down to earth, Reef Knot will be looking to regain the winning thread in the feature Starter Allowance on Day 31 of the Arima Race Club season at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, today.

This speedy four-year-old daughter of Montreal Red/Regal Ties out of the champion John O’Brien stables could only finish sixth behind Marci’s Dreamer last time out when a raging favourite.

And although the poor showing in that event was never explained, it would be foolhardy to oppose this attractive filly which is owned in Barbados by Sir Charles Williams.

Marci’s Dreamer also holds the engagement in the$23,000 race over 1350 metres along with Carnival Messiah who was the runner-up in their previous meeting. Added to these, Jamaican-bred Latonia, also from O’Brien’s barn, Soul Asylum, Honor Bound and Lit d’Amour are also in the 11-horse line-up, and this race promises to provide a thrilling finish, but the vote goes to Reef Knot.

The Restricted Handicap worth $22,000 and to be run over 1750 metres will also test turfites, despite only seven runners.

Dinner Silence ran well enough last time out, and with apprentice Richard Mangalee claiming three kilos from his original 58.5 kilos impost, will take a lot of beating.

But great danger looms in the Jamaican Uram and his 2004 Derby conqueror Mucho Tempo and Privilege who in a very rich vein of form currently.

Kato was a very comfortable winner of last Saturday’s curtain event in very good time, and looks primed to go in again in today’s finale over 1300 metres.

But for those turfites who are always on the look out for upsets, then it will not hurt to have a flutter on Aticka or the consistent Champagne Wager.

The day opens with a duel between Nursery Stakes winner Sara’s Music and All For Java who beat him quite comfortably in their only meeting to date.

Teenage Barbadian apprentice Christopher Husbands can acknowledged the cheers of a winner for a third time today when he partners Native Love in the sixth race over 1800 metres on the turf course.

He was a very elated young man when landing Salsa Moves on Saturday last for his second winner on a Trinidad track.
