Avocat United crowned Fyzabad football champs

AVOCAT UNITED were crowned champions of the Fyzabad Community Football League while they watched on at final round action from the sidelines.

Closest rivals TTEC needed victory in their final match against ex-champs Juventus at Petrotrin Fyzabad Recreation Ground on Thursday last.

But the Electrical Men could not defuse the Juventus defensive wall and after 70 minutes the scoreline read 0-0 to the joy of the Avocat players and their loyal supporters.

The result meant Avocat United ended on 20 points leaving TTEC runners-up on 18 with Standard SC a further three points adrift in third.

On Tuesday, Juventus continued their defiant mood holding the new champs to a 0-0 draw in their knockout quarter-final.

And referee Kent Richardson ordered kicks from the penalty spot but this too failed to break the stalemate, and when the action was halted because of poor light the teams were knotted up 5-5 on penalties so a replay was scheduled.

But Standard SC advanced to the semi-finals when they held off a determined Colley Street Strikers 4-2 on penalties after they played out a 0-0 70 minute match.

Meanwhile, Avocat, TTEC, Standard and Fyzo Ball Playaz will battle in the Big Four series to begin soon. Knockout fixtures—

Tuesday — Fyzo Ball Playaz vs TTEC.

Saturday — Gons vs Petrotrin Newcommers.
