Lewis helps WI beat England
ST ANDREW’S: Former West Indies leg-spinner Rawl Lewis produced a steady allround performance to help West Indies beat England by 19 runs in the Virgin Holidays Annual Grenada Cricket Classics on Sunday. Lewis, fresh from captaining the Windward Islands in the semi-finals of the KFC West Indies Limited Overs Cricket Tournament in Guyana, blasted 40 off just 20 balls which included two sixes and three fours, as the former Windies players totalled 159 for eight off the 20 overs. Lewis got good support from Hendy Bryan (25 not out) and Junior Murray (24). Derek Underwood (two for 8) and John Emburey (two for 10) were the pick of the English bowlers. The Englishmen’s run-chase was led by former Glamorgan, Surrey and England batsman Alan Butcher with 37 off 43 balls. Allan Lamb (27), Neil Radford (23) and Paul Nixon (23) also had good scores. Bowling for the West Indies, Lewis took two for ten and Vasbert Drakes two for 14. The former West Indies team was led by Joel Garner and also included Carlisle Best, Jimmy Adams, Neil Williams, Irving Shillingford, Milton Small and Camilus Alexander. The English team included Chris Lewis, John Lever, David Capel and Tim Murtagh.
