Tidal Wave splash Sunday
OVER 400 swimmers from 30 schools will be competing at the Tidal Wave Aquatics Swim Club annual East Zone Schools’ Swim Meet. The event will take place on Sunday at the Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence Swim Facility, Tunapuna, from 9.30 am. There will be events for both primary and secondary schools in the various categories — Boys, Girls and Co-ed. Among the primary schools expected to compete are 2004 winners St Joseph Boys RC, St Joseph Girls RC and the University School (co-ed) while, in the secondary schools department, Trinity College East, Bishop Anstey East and St Augustine Senior Secondary will be defending the boys, girls and co-ed titles respectively. In related news, the fifth annual Tidal Wave Aquatics Secondary Schools’ Swim Meet will be staged on November 6, with the deadline for submission of entries on October 27. Meanwhile, the 16th annual La Joya Torpedoes Interclub Swim Meet was held last weekend at the La Joya Swim Pool, St Joseph, with Tidal Wave cruising to an easy victory with 639 points, with Blue Dolphins a distant second with 483 points and Marlins third with 338. Stingrays came fourth with 214, followed by Barracudas 182, La Joya 142, Flying Fish 130, Silver Fins 91 and Tsunami 17.
