WI women plan one-day series

TEAMS FROM India, Pakistan and Holland will visit the Caribbean next May for a four-nation one-day international tournament which will be hosted by the West Indies.

The tournament is expected to raise the standard of women cricket in the region and comes on the heels of the acceptance of women’s cricket under the umbrella body of the International Cricket Council (ICC), just like the men.

The West Indies Cricket Board have appointed the CCW to organise and conduct women’s cricket in the Caribbean.

This decision to host the tournament was made at the first West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Women Cricket Committee in Trinidad on October 1.

At the meeting it was also agreed that the Under-23 Women Cricket Tournament will be held here in Trinidad and Tobago in December, while a senior tournament is also carded for April of next year in St Lucia.

Also coming out of the meeting was a junior tournament planned in July of next year in either St Vincent or Jamaica while high performance camps which will be used to focus on the players, will be held in April or May of next year in Barbados.

The board also took the decision to prepare a four-year development plan to enhance the sport of cricket in the region.

Another meeting of the board will be held soon and attended by a representative of each country in the region.
