Jack wants yellow cards waived

TRINIDAD and Tobago and Bahrain will find out tomorrow whether the cautionary yellow cards handed to their players during the World Cup qualifying campaign will be waived.

The countries meet on November 12 and 16 in a two-leg playoff for a place in the World Cup Finals in germany next year.

Jack Warner, Special Advisor to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) has said he has written to FIFA about the card situation and is expected to get a response soon.

Yesterday the regional football boss told Newsday that he will be going back to the world governing body for football (FIFA) to get a response.

The TT/Bahrain clash are the last two matches of the 2006 World Cup qualifying campaign and Warner had initially set out to have the cards of the local players wiped out.

But on Friday he pointed out that he did not want to be biased, and would attempt to have the cards from the players of both countries wiped out.

Should FIFA consent to have the card waived, the players currently under the "yellow" cloud will be under no threat of receiving a red for any enfringement which will prevent them from playing in the second leg of the play-offs.

Almost the entire Trinidad and Tobago squad have received yellow cards during the campaign. Among them are captain and midfielder Dwight Yorke, defenders Brent Sancho and Marvin Andrews, midfielders Chris Birchall and Aurtis Whittley and striker Kenwyne Jones.

Bahrain have also got a number of players with yellow cards.
