N/E umpires slam support for ‘Friends’
THE NORTH East Zone Cricket Umpires Association (NEZCUA) yesterday distanced themselves from a recent newspaper report which stated that the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Umpires and Scorers Council (TTCUSC) have come out in support of "Friends of Cricket. " The report stated that a unanimous decision was taken by the executive of the TTCUSC at an Annual General Meeting to support the "Friends of Cricket" in the coming election of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board. Former West indies wicketkeeper Deryck Murray of Friends of Cricket is going up against Dudnath Ramkessoon for the post of president. In a release from the chairman of the (NEZCUA), Harry Mahabal, yesterday however, it was revealed that the NEZCUA is unaware of any meeting by the executive and refuted the decision to back the newly formed group challenging the status quo. The NEZCUA also expressed the view that the support by the TTCUSC for one of the contenders of the coming election, has compromised the objective of the organisation. This the North east umpires said should be to co-operate and cultivate good relations with all other bodies and individuals for the improvement of the game as well as promote and regulate all umpiring matters. They stated further that the executive committee or management committee of any organisation is expected to do just that, that is, manage the affairs of the organisation in accordance with the policy determined from time to time by the council.
