Long trip back worries kingdom

BAHRAIN football team manager Abdulrazzaq Mohammed is worried that his players may not maintain their performance for the second-leg match in Bahrain against Trinidad and Tobago as they will be making two long journeys which is something that the players are not used to.

"This playoff is going to be difficult and it is 180 minutes for both teams so I hope we can do well," said the former international defender.

"We watched some tapes of Trinidad matches in their qualifying zone and coach Luka Peruzovic is aware of their weaknesses taking into considering the abilities of the opposing side which consists of quality players playing abroad for top clubs in England, Scotland and Australia," he said.

The Asian Zone team tackle the Warriors in a two-leg play-off for a place in the World Cup Finals in Germany next year.

The return match is in Manama on November 16.

Mohammed expressed relief for having back the full team in training as all the players are fit and ready for the next play-off.

The team, sponsored by Batelco, had their last training session on Sunday night at the National Stadium which was held behind closed doors following directives from their coach Peruzovic.

Qatari club professionals Mohammed Salmeen, Salman Isa (Al Arabi Club), Mohammed Sayed Adnan and Mohammed Juma’a (Al Khor) had their first training with the team yesterday.

"We did all we can to prepare the team for this crucial play-off although our plans of having a week-long camp in the Caribbean and arranging some friendly matches in that area were turned down," said Bahrain Football Association general secretary Ahmed Jassim.
