Rain washes out cricket start

RAIN yesterday washed out the first day of a planned four-day cricket trial at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva yesterday.

The match involves national players preparing for the coming regional Carib Beer Cup later this month.

A team being led by former national and West Indies fastbowler Mervyn Dillon was carded to take on a Daren Ganga XI, but heavy overnight rain made conditions on the ground soggy and unplayable.

There will also be no play today as conditions will be damp and soggy, while play tomorrow will also depend on sunny weather today.

The shortened Carib Beer Series will bowl off on November 25 with two first round matches in Jamaica and Guyana.
