Burrell supporting Warriors

MONTEGO BAY: Trinidad and Tobago will have the support of former Jamaican Football Federation president, Horace Burrell as they take on Bahrain in the first leg of the World Cup play-off tomorrow in Port-of-Spain.

Burrell, also a Caribbean Football Union and CONCACAF executive member, headed the JFF when Jamaica became the first English-speaking Caribbean team to qualify for the 1998 World Cup in France. "I’ll be in Port-of-Spain on Saturday. In fact, I’ll be leaving on BWIA on Friday to get there in time for the match," Burrell told the Jamaica Observer.

"I’m looking forward to being there to give my 100 per cent support to Trinidad and Tobago."

The Warriors, as the TT national football team has come to be known, are on the verge of World Cup qualification, after finishing fourth in the CONCACAF World Cup final round qualifying series.

They are currently assembled at home preparing for tomorrow’s first leg at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

Burrell said that TT’s qualification for the World Cup would be a huge fillip for the Caribbean.

"Any team that qualifies from the Caribbean region affects positively all the other countries. I can recall when we qualified for the 1998 World Cup that every Caribbean territory told me how very proud they were and therefore, I see no difference in this case should Trinidad qualify," Burrell said.

"I wish them the best and I will be there rooting for them."
