Peters, James win at Scalextric


MARILYN PETERS won the women’s division and Trevor James took the Over-35 category at the Maritime Centre, Barataria on Saturday, as action continued in the Model Car Association’s 35th annual National Scalextric Championships.


Peters amassed 78.7 points to claim victory amongst the women, followed by her daughter Janelle Joseph 77.4, Jisiel Whiteman 74.9 and Rachel Edwards 49.3.


But Peters would not have double success on the day, as she was beaten by Tobago lifeguard James in the Over-35s, with James tallying 77.8 and Peters 76.7. Rawson Samuel, vice-president of the Model Car Association, placed third with 74.1, with Sheikh Khan next with 70.9.


The top two finishers in both groups will join the national team for the Caribbean Championships in Grenada next July.


Tomorrow, the National Open and Champion of Champions competitions will begin at 9 am at the Barataria venue.


Participants in the Open division are Kathrine Lee A Ping, Nicholai Ronalds, Rondell Hypolite, Janelle Joseph, Nigel Calcut, Prem Sawh, Sayyad Khan, Sheikh Khan, Anthony Temull, Marilyn Peters, Patrice Chin King, Marcus Codallo, Reshard Deane, Jesus Chin King, James Ferguson and Kevin Lee A Ping.


Jeffrey Sanguinette, Hayden Lee, Naresh Bhola, Asudev Jaggernauth, Ramesh Bhola, Dave Singh, Mark Hobson Garcia, Dennis Alleyne, Shikayat Ali-Kudrath, Roger Hosein, Gerard Joseph, Junior Joseph, Richard Roebuck, Rudy Roebuck and Sherry Singh are among the 30 entrants for the Champion of Champions category.


Also featuring in that section are Ramon Ramcharan, Albert Charles, Dionese Bhola, Shorab Kudrath, Ravindra Maharaj, Lyndon Gervais, Lorne Marshall, Tyronne Rampersad, Christian Acosta, Clive Griffith, Brian Khan, Natascha Ramcharran, Derek La Guerre, Luke Bhola and Devon Attong Paul.


Meanwhile, the Model Car Association will be commemorating its 35th anniversary with an award ceremony, dinner and dance at Kam-Po Chinese Restaurant and Lounge, Chaguanas on November 19, from 7 pm.
