Warner: All’s set for tomorrow

JACK AUSTIN WARNER, Special Advisor to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF), has emphasised that everything will be in order for tomorrow’s first-leg FIFA World Cup play-off against Bahrain at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.

"I think the preparations (are) in order, everything is in place especially security at all levels, before the game, during the game and even after the game," said Warner, at a media briefing at the CONCACAF office, Edward Street, Port-of-Spain on Wednesday.

The CONCACAF boss and FIFA vice-president also revealed that Carib Brewery Limited will be organising a mini-concert on the practice pitch, with soca bands Traffik and Roy Cape Kaiso All Stars expected to perform.

Warner said that he was appreciative of Carib’s gesture, as well as the other corporate bodies that are lending their support towards the national team.

"Whatever happens on Saturday, and I know that we shall win on Saturday, it is not a war, it’s a match, and I’m quite sure we will show the world our level of football, our skill and our ability to organise a match of that magnitude," said Warner.

"The match is going live to some 81 countries, as far as Japan, Thailand and Indonesia and all of the Americas," he noted. "Everyday, there are more and more countries taking a feed." Concerning the media coverage, Warner remarked 162 members of the media covering the match. This is, by far, a record for a match of this nature."

The TTFF Special Advisor also spoke of the ticket sales, which will take place today at three venues— the Hasely Crawford Stadium, the Arima Municipal Stadium and Skinner Park, San Fernando.

"Security will be at the venues from 6.30 am," said Warner. "The sale of tickets will (begin) at 8 am and go right through until tickets are finished or until 5 pm, whichever comes first.

"Security will be heavy (and) tight because we expect a rush for a sale of tickets," he continued. "We shall sell them on a first-come, first-serve basis and no more than four per person. I know that the tickets would not be enough because there are only 18,000 seats in the ground section and 5,000 in the covered section.

"We are not going to sell one ticket more than those numbers and, in fact, what we have done is taken out some tickets from the covered stand for invitees, our guests, members of Government and so on.

"So we have less than 5,000 to sell," he admitted. "Whatever we have, will be sold at those three venues," he said.

Warner revealed that persons from throughout the Caribbean are expected to witness tomorrow’s encounter.

And, for the return leg on Wednesday, Warner said the charter flight has been well subscribed, thanks to the efforts made by the team’s main sponsor TSTT.
