Fatima capture North Zone Intercol
FATIMA finally got something to show for their impressive performances in this year’s Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) when they won the North Zone Intercol title, beating Mucurapo 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, yesterday. Both teams failed to break a 4-4 deadlock at the end of extra-time, before Fatima prevailed from the spot after Mucurapo’s Khalil Highland fired his shot wide of the post. Now Fatima set their eyes on the national RBTT Intercol title for the first time in the past 20 years. In a closely contested match Fatima took the lead when Makesi Lewis fired in their first goal, and before Mucurapo could find their footing in defence, Chad De Freitas added another, only for Akilla Guerra to pull one back for Mucurapo. Richard Wright equalised for Mucurapo before an own-goal restored Fatima’s lead but Wright again put his team level but Guerra gave Mucurapo their first lead. Jevon Morris sent the game into extra-time with the fourth Fatima goal. In the Central zone, Carapichaima won the title 4 -1 on penalty kicks over Presentation after they drew 1-1 in regulation at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.
