Prez calls on Beetham residents to be proud

PRESIDENT OF Trinidad and Tobago, George Maxwell Richards, has called on the residents of Beetham Gardens to take pride in seeing the national flag of TT fly in their area, and for the spirit of nationhood to be alive and well in Beetham Gardens.

Speaking during the first hoisting of the national flag at the All-in-One Child Develop-ment Centre at Beetham Gardens yesterday, Richards said he hoped that the national flag will be a beacon of hope for the community. Richards said with the environment of the school being aesthetically pleasing, he was sure that the children will respond positively and will co-operate in maintaining a high standard of care for their physical space. "This in turn will have a positive impact on the learning process," said Richards.

Board member and psychologist at the centre, Dr Dorrel Philip, said the students of the school are a band of warriors fighting a war against a society which seem uncaring about the health and welfare of the population in Beetham Gardens. "This band of warriors must overcome obstacles such as miseducation, poverty, violence, physical and mental abuse," said Philip.

Also attending the ceremony were the President’s wife, First Lady Dr Jean Ramjohn Richards, Minister in the Ministry of National Security, Fitzgerald Hinds, and principal of the centre Wayne Jordan.
