Pacer gives Jamaica advantage
KINGSTON: Andrew Richardson produced a telling burst of fast bowling in the first over after tea to rock the Leeward Islands, and give title holders Jamaica the advantage on the opening day of their first round Carib Beer Series match at Kensington Park yesterday. The 24-year old right arm quickly grabbed three wickets in his seventh over to reduce the Leewards from 185 for four to 185 for seven and send the visitors eventually crashing to 196 all out. In the 10.4 overs available before bad light brought a premature end to play, Jamaica had reached 35 for one, with Brenton Parchment falling to fast bowler Adam Sanford for 19, with the score on 24. Prior to his final-session heroics, Richardson had sent down six overs for 28 runs without any success but produced a spell which garnered five wickets in four overs, including two maidens, to rip the heart out of the Leewards. He eventually finished with five for 32. Leewards captain Sylvester Joseph, unbeaten on 47 at tea, was Richardson’s first victim, caught behind by wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh without adding. Richardson then trapped all-rounder Omari Banks lbw next ball without scoring and even though Carl Simon averted the hattrick ball, he fell two balls later to a catch at the wicket without scoring. With the rut having set in, the Leewards never recovered and capitulated meekly.
