Fatima capture Intercol title

TWENTY FOUR years after they met in an Intercol final, Fatima captured the RBTT-sponsored 2005 edition with a 2-1 victory over the mean "Green Machine" of St Augustine at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, yesterday.

This win was Fatima’s third victory in an Intercol final, following triumphs in 1965 and 1979 while the "Green Machine", who won the 1981 title, failed to add the 2005 crown to their showcase.

National Under-15 striker Chad De Freitas opened the scoring in the 14th minute while prolific striker Makesi Lewis doubled the team’s tally in the 53rd with a smashing shot.

Daniel Joseph’s 80th minute volley gave St Augustine a glimmer of hope but Fatima’s defence withstood their efforts as the "Green Machine" threatened to overrun them, until the final whistle.

The St Augustine school, which celebrated their 30th anniversary on Friday, completed a miserable day at Mucurapo yesterday, when their girls team were hammered 6-0 by Providence in their Intercol decider.
