Woman dies in crash


A 34-YEAR-OLD woman died instantly when the car she was travelling in flipped over several times and landed on its hood during the wee hours of Sunday morning.


According to a police report, at about 4.30 am Yuvan Suraj of Freeport was driving his grey Sentra B14 along the Solomon Hochoy Highway.


On approaching the Preysal Flyover a tyre blew out, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.


One of his passengers seated in the backseat of the car was Maureen Ramkissoon of St Andrew’s Village, Couva.


The other two passengers were up to late yesterday unidentified.


The report stated that the vehicle flipped over several times before landing on its hood. Ramkissoon was pronounced dead at the scene.


Her body was removed to the Forensic Science Centre in Port-of-Spain where an autopsy is expected to be performed today to determine cause of death.


Suraj, the report stated, along with the other two passengers, were rushed to the Couva District Hospital where they were treated for minor cuts and bruises.


Investigations are continuing.
