UWI student injured in Caroni smash-up
A University of the West Indies student is now nursing serious injuries after being involved in a smash-up yesterday morning opposite the Caroni Cremation Site on the Caroni North Bank Road. According to reports, Kimbly Bharat, 19, of Rio Claro, was proceeding west along the road at about 10.30 am, when she lost control and swerved into a Happi Foods Products truck heading west. The white car spun around several times and came to a stop on the other side of the road, while the damaged truck was forced to pull off the road. After several failed attempts to pull the injured woman out the vehicle, the Fire Services used the "Jaws of Life" to cut her out. The injured teen was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where she remains warded. Eyewitnesses told Newsday that Bharat sustained serious head and foot injuries. She is listed in a serious condition. Investigations reveal that the teen had gone to Caroni with a friend to get his mother’s car. He was driving his mother’s car ahead of her, while she was following in his car when the accident took place. Caroni police are investigating.
