Collymore ruled out NZ tour

ADELAIDE: The West Indies, fresh from a 3-0 whipping at the hands of World Champions Australia, will be without their most consistent and penetrative medium/fast bowler Corey Collymore who was expected to undergo surgery today in Melbourne to remove a bone spur in his right patellar (knee) tendon.

Collymore will miss the West Indies’ one day encounter with the Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra tomorrow.

Collymore will require approximately four months for recovery which will effectively rule him out of the West Indies tour to New Zealand commencing in February. Collymore, was joint leading wicket-taker on the tour of Australia, with eight wickets.

His recovery will be closely monitored and it is expected that he should be available for selection for the home test series against India in 2006.

Collymore bravely played during the recent three test series against Australia with a significant amount of pain in his right knee and was rested from the training sessions between tests.

The players and members of the team operations unit wished Collymore well for his procedure and are all confident that it will be a success.

The West Indies squad will consist of 12 members for the final game of the tour as no replacement will be sought.

Collymore will return to the Caribbean on December 7, after traveling to Melbourne from Adellide yesterday.

Collymore, 27, has played in 19 tests and grabbed 60 wickets with a best bowling tally of 7/57 at an economy rate of 2.91. In One Day Internationals, he has played in 64 matches and grabbed 68 wickets with a best bowling analysis of 5/51. He made his test debut against Australia in Antigua back in 1999.

The full squad is: S. Chanderpaul (Captain), R. Sarwan (Vice Captain) DS Smith, W Hinds, B Lara, DR Smith, D Bravo, D Ramdin, T Best, D Powell, F Edwards, J Lawson.
