Jadoo steals feature with Outswinger

JOCKEY Ricardo Jadoo showed his undoubted front-running skill as he guided Outswinger to victory in the Starter Allowance feature at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, yesterday. He took the five-year-old American-bred horse into the lead from the off in the 1600 metres race on the turf course, and when Rajpaul Rajkumar brought Royal Miss to challenge inside the final furlong, his horse had enough in the tank to fend him off . Another wire-to-wire winner was Movietowne Magic who captured the co-featured Restricted Handicap over 1350 metres with a clever ride by apprentice Kumar Bissoon. Because of the small fields on the day’s 10-race programme, dividends were moderate except for the final event won by outsider Aticka who rewarded backers with $33.60 and $6.10 on the tote.

Coupled with Bandikoot, Champagne Wager and fourth placed Juanistheman, the superfecta paid $1,675.20. But when Cuatro Tempo led home Chavez, Trini Express and Footwork the superfecta topped this with a payout of $3,700.30Another good dividend was paid out on Saucy Wow, Mister Hypocrit, Final Set, and Hyarima - $1,345.30, while the trifecta dividend was $1,897.80. There were some keen finishes on the day, with Aticka just holding off Bandikoot by a head. And outswinger only had 1/2 length to spare at the finish and Saucy Wow also had just 1/2 length to spare in the end. The jockeys rivalry continued with Joshua Stephen, starting the day for winners back of Venezuelan Wilmer Galviz booting home Winnie in the day’s opener.

But Galviz was back in winner’s row when he landed Bold Mover in the next race for two-year-olds. Stephen (J) forged ahead again on the day when he steered Island Runner home to knot up the day’s riding honours, which was also shared by Jadoo (R) who also had a double. Trainers Glenn Mendez and Chester Roberts who both saddled two winners each led their peers.
