Toco kidnap suspect slapped with 15 charges

The 40-year-old suspect in the kidnapping of Glencoe resident Jade Solis was yesterday charged with ten counts of robbery with aggravation and housebreaking.

The man was also charged with kidnapping for ransom, demanding money for ransom, knowingly receiving a ransom, and possession of arms and ammunition.

Two others arrested along with the main suspect were charged with possession of arms and ammunition. They will appear before a Sangre Grande magistrate today.

Yesterday, scores of media workers and members of the public turned up at the Sangre Grande Magistrates’ Court to catch a glimpse of the suspects, but they all failed to show.

Police sources revealed that the suspects are expected to be slapped with additional charges and the police complainant in the matter was awaiting instructions on the matter.

The three were arrested in Toco last Thursday night.

Police sources revealed that a gun, a quantity of cash and stolen items were seized.

The suspects were taken to the Sangre Grande Police Station where they were charged yesterday.

The kidnap victim, Jade Solis, was snatched while having dinner with relatives at Pt Galera, Toco. She told investigators that she was forced to walk ten miles and taken to a house at Monsegue Trace, Toco.

Solis was released last Tuesday after a $21,000 ransom was paid.
