Under-16 n-ballers lose two straight


BASSETERRE: Barbados and hosts St Kitts completed back-to-back wins as the 7th Caribbean Netball Association (CNA) Under-16 tournament continued on Sunday night at the Netball City, Warner Park.


Barbados whipped Dominica 33-14, and St Kitts defeated former champions St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) 28-22, while title-holders Jamaica opened their account with a fluent win over Trinidad and Tobago.


St Kitts handed former champions SVG their second defeat in as many nights when shooter Ronel Morton (21/28) and goal attack Sherima Stanley (7/12) carried them to the six-goal win.


The Kittitians fell just below the 31 points they collected to beat Grenada on opening night, but were steady and shrugged off the 1999 champions with quarterly leads of 6-5, 12-9, and 21-16.


SVG got their goals from Austina Kydd (13/17) and Shalisa Davis (9/15).


The Jamaicans, who have won all five regional youth tournaments they have contested, topped TT 30-21 in their match.


On the back of goal attack Vanessa Walker (18/31) and Danielle Ellis (12/17), Jamaica kept control of the match and held TT at bay, leading the quarters 9-5, 17-10, 23-16 en route to their nine-goal victory.


Jolisa Cooper (15/30) and K’lene Lewis (6/11) led he TT scoring.


When the tournament continued last night, St Kitts and Barbados will meet in a battle of undefeated teams, while Jamaica faced Dominica, and SVG tackled Grenada.
