Interchange work begins
THE CONSTRUCTION of the long-awaited traffic Interchange on the Uriah Butler/Churchill Roosevelt Highway has begun. Over the last few weeks, Seereram Brothers (contractors for phase one of the interchange) have been undertaking works on the north and south bound lanes of the Uriah Butler Highway near Bamboo Settlements One and Two. The work is in preparation for the laying of the interchange’s foundations and to help facilitate the free flow of traffic during the actual construction phase. Works and Transport Minister Colm Imbert has promised that construction of the interchange will begin before or by December 31. Phase one of the interchange is expected to be completed by June, 2007. Newsday captured some of the works in progress yesterday.
