Nigel Roderique found in Caroni

NIGEL "Cat" Roderique, who was reported missing a week ago along with friend Nigel Allen, was found yesterday.

Police discovered Roderique, of Diamond Village, Claxton Bay, during the early hours of yesterday morning lying at the side of the road at Ibis Gardens, Caroni.

Police said Roderique’s hands and feet were tied when he was first spotted by residents of Ibis Gardens.

Allen, of Cocoyea Village, San Fernando, who had left home to meet Roderique, remains missing.

Allen’s strange disappearance was brought to the attention of authorities when relatives filed a "missing person’s" report stating that he had left home to visit a man named Cat at Diamond Village, Claxton Bay. Allen’s car was found abandoned at the Forres Park dump in Claxton Bay.

Roderique’s wife, Denise Phillip, reported that she last saw her husband last Thursday when he left home with $13,000.

Relatives of both Roderique and Allen searched canefields and forested parts of Trinidad for the missing men without success.

Yesterday, at about 2 am, villagers of Ibis Gardens saw a man lying at the side of the road in some bushes in the newly-established Ibis Gardens.

A police report stated that residents began to scream and within minutes a party of police officers attached to the Caroni Police Station visited the scene. Both Rodrique’s hands and feet, the report stated, were tied behind his back with rope. Roderique was taken to the Couva District Hospital where he was medically examined.

However, investigators said yesterday that they then took Roderique to offices of the Couva CID where he was questioned by officers of Homicide Bureau (South) in connection with Allen’s whereabouts.

Officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and Homicide detectives (South) are investigating.
