Brothers on murder charge

TWO BROTHERS are expected to appear before a San Fernando Magistrate today charged with the murder of URP labourer Cassie Ramnarine, 52. Ramnarine died at the San Fenando General Hospital last Wednesday, five days after he was severely beaten with a piece of wood and cutlass at his home in Ramai Trace, Debe. Police said the attack stemmed from an ongoing dispute over  land. The brothers, ages 30 and 45, of Debe, who are related to Ramnarine, were charged last Friday by Insp Denoon of the South Homicide Bureau. The brutal attack took place around 11.30 pm on Friday December 9.

According to a police report, Ramnarine, who lived with his mother, sister and two brothers, was asleep in his bed. Two relatives, police said, dragged Ramnarine off his bed and dealt him several blows about his body with a cutlass and piece of wood. Ramnarine then ran out of the house but was pursued by his attackers and beaten. Neighbours, police said, ran the to the man’s assistance and were able to restrain the relatives. An autopsy performed on Ramnarine’s body revealed that death was due to blunt force trauma to the head.
