Murderer in daring escape from hospital
A PRISON officer with the Maximum Security Prison in Arouca is now at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital recovering from eye injuries after a substance was thrown at him by an escaping prisoner. According to reports, murder convict Glenroy Bishop, 30, formerly of Macoya Settlement, Tunapuna, was at Ward 31 on the third floor of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, when he asked to be taken to the washroom at 7.40 pm. While approaching the washroom, Bishop whipped out a container with salt and pepper and threw it in the prison officer’s face, causing temporary blindness. The prisoner then escaped.
A report was filed at the Belmont Police Station after which several unsuccessful roadblocks were set-up. Bishop was found guilty for the 1993 murder of an Arouca maxi-taxi conductor in Tunapuna. Up to press time, Bishop was still at large. Meanwhile, cops continue the hunt for escaped prisoner Elliston Guppy of Caiman Road, St Joseph, who escaped from the Caura Hospital two months ago while being treated for a terminal disease.
