Fisherman’s body recovered in Toco
The bodY of fisherman Peter Stanley, who drowned on Saturday afternoon, was found by villagers at Big Bay, Toco, yesterday. The body was found two miles away from where his boat had capsized. According to police reports, Peter Stanley, 35, alias Hawk, and his nephew Glen Lovelace went out along the North Coast in the fishing boat “Destroyer” at about 1.30 pm on Saturday, when they encountered rough waters. The boat capsized and both men were thrown overboard. Stanley disappeared under water, while Lovelace swam to shore. Lovelace reported the incident at the Toco Police Station, and Cpls Anthony Wight and John Stewart visited the scene with PCs Dave Bhaggan, Gilmore Thomas, and Darren De La Rosa.
The Coast Guard was summoned to assist in the search, but there was no sign of Stanley. Stanley is the brother of Insp Fermin Roy of the Eastern Division’s Criminal Investigation Department. The body was viewed by a district medical officer and ordered to the Sangre Grande Mortuary. A post-mortem is expected today at the Forensic Science Centre. Insp Trevor Joseph, police photographer Wight and WPC Pamela Persad visited Big Bay yesterday to view the body. De La Rosa is investigating.
