Palmiste family beaten and robbed
PETROTRIN employee Kim Young Low, his wife, and their two children were tied up and robbed by bandits yesterday at their home at Palmiste, San Fernando. The incident occurred at about 4 am while the family was asleep. Yesterday, the family sought medical treatment and professional counselling after an attack in which the bandits threatened to kidnap one of Young Low’s family members. According to a police report, Young Low secured his house Monday night, but he was awakened by a loud noise at 4 am. When Young Low went downstairs to check, he was confronted by three masked men armed with cutlasses and knives. Police said the men gained entry into the house by breaking open a front door made of metal sheet. One of the men, the report stated, announced a hold-up and struck Young Low in the face. The other two men, the report stated, proceeded to the master bedroom where they kicked down the bedroom door and snatched Young Low’s wife, Peggy, who was asleep. Marc and Timothy, who were also asleep in adjacent bedrooms, the report stated, were also snatched from their beds.
The family members, including Young Low, were ordered into one bedroom and made to sit on the floor. The police report stated that the men then tied the hands and feet of everyone with pieces of cloth and covered them with a blanket. The bandits ordered the family to hand over their money during which, the police said, the bandits cuffed and slapped Young Low’s wife Peggy and son Marc. Police said the men also threatened to kidnap one of them if they did not hand over money and jewelry. The report stated that the men ransacked the entire house and subsequently escaped with an undisclosed sum of cash, jewelry, three cell phones and electronic items which included a stereo system, a DVD player and a play-station. The men then escaped in a waiting car. Yesterday, Young Low, who is a team leader at Petrotrin’s Maintenance Department, told Newsday that the ordeal his family went through was horrific. PC Singh of the San Fernando CID is investigating.
