Kidnappers snatch Jenny’s husband
Three kidnappers armed with guns stormed into the carpark at the popular Jenny’s on the Boulevard restaurant early yesterday, and snatched Basdeo Sharma, the husband of popular businesswoman Jenny Sharma. Sharma, a mother of two, is the owner of the restaurant Reports revealed that around 1 am, Jenny and her husband Basdeo, 55, were walking to their car in the car park, when they were accosted by three men armed with guns. Basdeo was snatched by two of the men who began forcing him to a vehicle. His wife Jenny began begging the third kidnapper to release her husband, but he refused. Jenny reportedly began negotiating with the kidnapper and offered him $200,000 for the release of her husband, but he again refused. Jenny then contacted officers of the Woodbrook Police Station and they went to the scene.
An All Points Bulletin was sent out for police to lookout for the vehicle with Sharma. Yesterday, it was business as usual at the popular restaurant, but Sharma stayed indoors at her Flagstaff home while being quizzed by officers. The distraught woman was unable to be interviewed. Officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad told Newsday they are investigating the matter. Last week, gunmen stormed the restaurant and ordered patrons to lie on the floor. They were robbed of a quantity of cash and jewelry. Investigators told Newsday that the robbers may have come to kidnap, but Sharma was not around at the time. Investigations are continuing. Sharma is the 210th kidnap victim for the year.
