Christmas Eve killing in Arima

WHILE THE majority of the nation’s citizens were busy indulging in last-minute shopping and preparations for Christmas Day, the borough of Arima was the scene of a Mafia-style murder on Saturday night. Dead is Wolde Caleabbean, a 49-year-old self-employed proprietor from Damarie Hill, Sangre Grande. According to reports, Caleabbean, the owner of Kale’s Hip Hop Fashions on Green Street, Arima, had closed his shop and was heading for home in his black Toyota Hilux at about 9.45 pm.

Only a few metres away from the store, however, at the corner of Green and Guanapo Streets, Caleabbean was confronted by a lone gunman who fired a shot through the windscreen, killing the businessman instantly. Officers of the Arima and Arouca Police Stations, as well as members of both the Defence Force and Homicide Bureau quickly converged on the scene and cordoned off the area from oncoming traffic, as well as a large gathering of curious onlookers who wanted to get a closer look at Caleabbean’s body. Caleabbean leaves to mourn a wife and six children. Investigations are continuing.
