Bold As Brass out Sian’s Gold Sprint
BOLD AS BRASS, runner-up to Sugar Mike in the B Mobile Stewards’ Cup at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, on December 10 has been pulled out of the feature First Citizens Sian’s Gold Sprint on New Year’s Day, tomorrow. This son of Wheaton/Solid Claim owned by Merlin Samlalsingh in the Glenn Mendez stables, was one of the early favourites for the 1100 metres sprint on the turf course. And the withdrawal of Bold As Brass robs the race of some of its glamour, although it remains a turfite’s headache spotting the winner. Also out of the Sian’s Gold is Dottie’s Way, leaving a field of eight runners to go to post for the $75,000 race. Both Lady Banker and Zillmer have been scratched from the day’s opener on the $250,000 First Citizens-sponsored 10-race New Year’s Day at the Races programme. JD Great has been withdrawn from the second race, the First Citizens First On Line Trophy over 1200 metres, while the well-considered Jamaican-bred Ray Of Light has been taken out of the First Citizens Energy Fund Trophy over 1200 metres.
There are two scratches in the First Citizens Neo Trophy, the first of the three-race Jockeys Championship series, Si Senor and Sam’s Hall. Both three-year-old maidens were expected to have their first start. Out of the First Citizens E First Trophy Starter Allowance over 1350 metres is Soul Asylum. Meanwhile, according to imformation from the Arima Race Club Pudge, a four-year-old Freshly Squeezed/Out Of This World offspring, has been banned for six to nine months from racing because of serious injury sustained in the Still Alert race for maidens on December 10. Another to feel the wrath of the ARC was Flying Eagle who has been banned completely, after racing veterinarian Dr Rahamut Ali jr found the filly to have suffered a torn left fore flexor. The Night Man received a nine-month ban after veterinarian Dr Diane Coombs reported the four-year-old Gilgamesh/Crescendo colt returned very lame from the Carib Beer Trophy Caribbean Sprint Championship race on November 26.
And Get Wet has been banned for at least six months, until the first race day in July because of recurrent bad behaviour. Carefree, on the recommendation of Dr Ali jr will not race until the first race day in February, but Bon Voyage who pulled up lame on Boxing Day, will not be allowed to race again until January 28. But Allan Madoo’s four-year-old Java In Flight/Indian Laura Lee offspring Laura’s Boy who broke down in the Rejuvenator race on Boxing Day, was euthanised. Another to be kept off the race track until February 4 because of injury is Sure Ting, while Miss Julie cannot race again until January 14.
