Fire victims get new home

A FAMILY OF FOUR who lost all their belongings in a fire which completely destroyed their home  in March 2004,  at St Andrew’s Street, Couva,  received a timely Christmas Gift of an NHA apartment at Pt Lisas Gardens, Couva. The lucky family — Susan Ashby and her three  children moved into the apartment on Christmas Eve through representation made on her behalf by Councillor Rhonda Bartholomew-John (Califor-nia/Pt Lisas) of the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation. Susan Ashby’s husband died in August 2005, and she was desperate to find a suitable dwelling place and she carried her problem to Bartholomew-John , who used her connections to find a home for her.

Bartholomew-John contacted the Pt  Lisas Caring Council, an organisation existing in the area, which provided a refrigerator for the family. The councillor used her own office to furnish a television and a stove also. She told Sunday Newsday that “her donors would soon be supplying living room and dining room sets, to make the family as comfortable as possible.” She thanked all those who made donations to improve the quality of life for this “unfortunate family.”
