Ramesh: Too much pain and grief in 2005

CHAIRMAN of Act Trinidad and Tobago Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj yesterday described 2005 as a difficult year for the people of this country in which there had been too much pain and grief. “Too many of our loved ones have been murdered, killed on roads, kidnapped and were victims of other serious crimes. The Government has not shown the will power and the passion to catch and stop the criminals,” he said in his New Year’s message. In a lengthy statement that was critical of the Government’s actions over the past year, Maharaj contended that the Manning administration could not provide the leadership and moral authority to stop criminals.

He declared: “Next year is a challenging and decisive year. The people must be given hope to end this crisis. The country needs strong and proven leadership. Weak leadership with mere rhetoric and no track record of success cannot produce safety and security for our nation. “The hopelessness and despair in our nation can only be rescued by national unity and strong leadership. Act Trinidad and Tobago intends to take whatever action necessary to deliver that hope and security to the people of Trinidad and Tobago.”
