Archbishop, PM in education talks

ROMAN Catholic Archbishop Edward Gilbert yesterday disclosed that he held discussions with Prime Minister Patrick Manning and Education Minister Hazel Manning over ways to improve the Catholic school system in Trinidad and Tobago. Speaking with Newsday at an annual New Year’s Day luncheon held at Nazareth House in Port-of-Spain, His Grace revealed that he has spoken with the Prime Minister and Mrs Manning about “the evaluation of the Catholic school system.” The Archbishop said he discussed the creation of a system of parish assemblies with them and he intends to “push hard” in 2006 to ensure that this system becomes a reality. Gilbert added that such a system will facilitate dialogue “with the entire Catholic nation (in TT)” about how they want the future to be structured and how the future could be “much brighter than it is now.”
