Cunupia man critical after shooting

A Cunupia labourer is in a critical condition at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital after being shot in a case of road rage. According to reports, Marvin Mondezie, 26, was riding along Marshall Trace, Cunupia, at 9 pm on Boxing Day, when his bicycle collided with a car. The angry driver came out cursing and shot Mondezie four times — once in the chest and three times in the abdomen. The injured man was rushed to hospital. Visiting the scene were Insp Stephen Ramsubhag, Sergeant Danny Ramlogan and Constable Jit Tolleram who is probing the incident. In an unrelated incident, Besson Street police are investigating the shooting of Williams Rocke, 30,  a labourer of Beetham Gardens, Laventille.


Reports revealed that Rocke was walking along Eastern Quarry Road near Success/Laventille Secondary School at 9 pm on Sunday, when he was accosted by two gun-toting bandits who demanded his gold chain and ring. Rocke resisted and was shot three times in the back, arm and head. He was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he remains warded in a stable condition. Meanwhile, Arouca police are investigating the abduction and robbery of a newspaper contractor. According to reports, Everest Ragbir of St John Street, Arouca, stopped his vehicle near Second Crossing Hardware, Arouca, at 5.30 am, when he was confronted by two armed men. The newspaper contractor was abducted in his own vehicle at gunpoint and blindfolded. The men then threw Ragbir out of the vehicle. He made his way to a nearby house where he was told he was at Dindial Trace, Cunupia. Arouca police are investigating.
