Courts All Sectors n-ball Saturday


ACTION in this year’s Courts All Sectors Netball league will begin on Saturday at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Orange Grove Road, Tacarigua from 3 pm.


The opening of the league now formally sponsored by Courts will be marked by a march past of the 18 teams.


Invited to the grand opening are Sport and Youth Affairs Minister Roger Boynes, "Mother of Netball" and ex-president of the International Federation of Netball Associations Inc Lystra Lewis, who coached the Calypso Girls to a share of the World Netball Championships in 1979.


Also expected to grace the proceedings are Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee president Larry Romany, Netball Association Inc president Martha Archer and Courts Corporate Communications Manager Jillian Demming have been invited to take the salute at the march past.


Only one new club enters the fray this season, Clinetres, who will campaign in the Alternative Division.


After the march past, there will be a short exhibition match among Alternative Division players, followed by the Opening Day knockout series which Defence Force won in both the Championship and Alternative Divisions.


Once again, Championship Division teams will vie for the Jean Pierre Memorial Trophy, named in honour of one of the pioneers of the league, and which will see the teams playing a third round Fire will defend the Jean Pierre, while Defence Force are the defending champions in both the Championship and Alternative leagues.


Last year’s knockout winners in the Championship Division were Fire who also won the Courts Knockout Trophy and the Jean Pierre Memorial Trophy, while Defencee Force took the honours in the Alternative Division. Four teams will form the Championship Division — Defence Force, Fire, Police, Caribbean Facilities Corporation (CFC). Comprising the Alternative Division are; Cilnetres, Fire, Police, Defence Force, Cavalier Investments Limited (Cavaliers), Bermudez X, Bermudez Y, TSTT.


The Retro Division teams are: Avengers, Cilnetres, Fire, Les Enfants, Police, TSTT.
