Cops hold ten for Samdaye’s murder

Police have held ten persons in connection with the kidnapping and murder of San Juan businesswoman Samdaye Rampersad.

Among those detained in the killing was a relative of executed druglord Dole Chadee. The suspects were being interrogated at the Homicide Bureau in Port-of-Spain yesterday.

Police sources revealed that one of the suspects led them to the shallow grave in Claxton Bay on Thursday, where the remains of Rampersad were found. That same suspect led police to another body in a shallow grave three weeks ago.

Rampersad, 45, was snatched by three gunmen near her mini-mart at Irving Street, San Juan, on November 26. Her brother Mervyn had appealed a number of times to the kidnappers to release his sister.

Around 9 am on Thursday, officers went to a canefield at Springvale, Claxton Bay, where they were led to a shallow grave.

Rampersad’s body was found lying face down in the dirt.

A district medical officer viewed the body and ordered the removal to the Forensic Science Centre.
