Gibson eyes WI coaching job
HIGHLY-QUALIFIED former Barbados and West Indies fast bowler Ottis Gibson is still eyeing his first major coaching assignment in the Caribbean. The 36-year-old Gibson, who played two Tests and 15 One-Day Internationals, holds a Level 4 coaching certificate, which is the highest level of qualification with the England Cricket Board (ECB). "I expressed an interest a while ago in working with either the BCA (Barbados Cricket Association) or the West Indies Cricket Board and that hasn’t changed," the England-based Gibson said. "I can’t come back unless there is something to come back to. I have spoken to people already and they know that I am interested in coming back so it is just a matter of waiting for the right opportunity. "In the meantime, I am just continuing to do what I am doing in England and continue to learn and improve my coaching skills and wait for that opportunity to come," he added. Gibson, who has taken 530 wickets in 149 First-Class matches, is back home on holiday and visited the Three Ws Oval at the Cave Hill Campus where the Barbados cricketers were having an indoor net session. But while Gibson waits for a coaching opportunity in the West Indies, he recently signed a two-year contract with newly promoted Division One side Durham to play in the English County Championship, after spending the last two seasons with Leicestershire. "At this moment in time, that’s my main focus— getting ready to play for Durham and participating in pre-season training and all that sort of stuff. Also, to continue to do the coaching that I have been doing," Gibson said.
