Spinner cops Couva cricket award
VINOO RAMDHANIE has been voted Couva Sports Club’s 2005 “Cricketer of the Year.” The spinner is an Assistant Teacher at Esperanza Presbyterian School, California. The club competes in Division Two of the National Cricket League run by the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board. Ramdhanie was named at the club’s annual presentation function last weekend at the Couva Junior Secondary School. He finished the season with 30 wickets from eight matches playing on the First Team. Award for the best batsman went to Allan Ramroop who scored 353 runs in 15 innings, for an average of 32.09, with a highest score of 82 against Aranguez.
For the Reserve Team, Ramgopaul Mangroo was the best batsman scoring 326 runs from 11 innings with an average of 32.60, topscoring with 104 runs against Mayo Valley Boys. Taking the most wickets on the Reserve Team was Shivan Mangroo (10 wickets from five matches)
Best bowling average award on the First Team went to Shastri Jattansingh who grabbed nine wickets for 139 runs at an average of 15.44. On the Reserve Team it was Shiva Mahase who also took nine wickets for 62 runs at an average of 6.88. Best bowling performance award in an innings on the first team went to Krishna Rampat (Five for 44 from 16.2 overs against Moosai’s Sports, and on the Reserve Team it was Shiva Mahase who captured seven for 40 against PowerGen Sports.
A special award went to Dinesh Dass (62 runs) for his batting performance against the play-off match against Curepe Sports to determine which team remains in Division Two. Receiving awards for the First Team were Allan Ramroop, Krishna Rampat, Jaggernath Ramnanan, Vinoo Ramdhanie and Dinesh Dass. For the Reserve Team awards were handed to Shivan Mangroo, Ramgopaul Mangroo, and Nanda Bowlah. The “Youth Cricketer of the Year” award went to Mark Brown. Deryck Murray, president of the TTCB congratulated the club on their overall performance over the 60 years of their existence. He said that proper club structure was essential to the growth and development of cricket and in that regard he was looking forward to see that clubs would be constitutionally on solid ground as they compete in the upcoming cricket season.
