P/Fortin man dies on the job

A POINT FORTIN man working on a land installation rig was killed after reportedly falling off the oil exploration facility situated at Union Village, Rio Claro yesterday evening. According to reports, at about 1.30 pm, Anthony Manning, a derrickman of 16 Sylvester Street, New Village, Point Fortin, was going about his regular duties when the accident occurred.


He was subsequently rushed to the Rio Claro Health Facility where doctors pronounced Manning dead on arrival. Manning, who was married, was the father of five children. The accident came two days after a worker at the Port of Point Lisas sustained injuries to his neck and spine in another industrial accident on Friday. The latest accident comes on the heels of a protest demonstration by the trade union movement calling for the implementation of the Occupational Safety and Health Act, OSHA.
