UNC: Govt forced into action on OSHA

The UNC yesterday questioned why Government had to be virtually “forced into action” on the OSHA Bill. “Why didn’t the ruling regime not act on its own accord on behalf of the working class?” the party asked in a release. The UNC said it noted with interest that the Government had appeared to put the OSHA issue on the national front burner following public protests and dialogue initiated by the labour movement.

But the UNC stressed that the blood of Anthony Williams and other innocent victims who have died on the worksite since the passage of the bill in Parliament in 2003 was on the hands of “twiddling” Prime Minister Patrick Manning and Labour Minister Danny Montano. Saying that it remained distressed over the continued non-implementation of OSHA, the party said: “Our frustration is deepened by jobsite deaths and injuries.” The UNC reiterated that OSHA should be put into effect in its current form, with the requisite amendments being formulated following appropriate consultation.
