LAVENTILLE TAXI DRIVER SHOT DEAD
A fatal accident investigation at St Francois Valley Road in Belmont yesterday turned into a homicide investigation at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, when a man removed from a crashed vehicle was found with a bullet wound to the head. According to reports, officers of the Belmont Police Station responded to a report that a car had crashed into a demolished wall outside the St Francois Girls’ College at about 3 pm.
Police took the injured man, Timothy Brown, 39, of St Barb’s Road, Laventille, to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. On checking, doctors at the hospital discovered that blood at the back of his head was not from an injury sustained in the accident, but from a bullet wound. Police sources confirmed several gang related shootouts in the St Barb’s and St Francois Valley Road areas in recent times, and they believe Brown was killed during a gang shootout. Brown is the 24th person murdered in 2006. Officers of the Homicide Bureau are investigating.
